Today has been very changeable! Woke up this morning to drizzle and nil visibility, so everything in my rucksack was packed in carrier bags to keep it all dry and I set off in waterproofs and fleece hat.
My guide book said the path today was "quite unusually boggy in wet weather". Sam had told me the path was made up of rock, mud and cow shit so, as it was raining, I decided to stride out on roads and passed through the villages of Pendeen, Morvah, Porthmeor, Boswednack and Zennor, where I planned to stop and have my packed lunch in the church. The church, however, was closed - gggrrrr! I had lunch instead at the backpackers' hostel next to the pub and the church.
My hat was off by this time as it had stopped raining. My coat came off soon after I left Zennor and my fleece came off while trekking up the road over (the huge) Rosewall Hill and down into St Ives. I 'phoned Sam to say I was at St Ives and that it had taken me less than four hours, including a lunch stop. Her response was, "blimey, did you get a lift?"!
I'd arranged to meet Mum and Dad at St Erth Station, so I had two hours to mooch around St Ives before getting the train to St Erth. I don't think I like St Ives very much. I can see its obvious attractions, but it's just a bit too perfect. There were too many people about for a start and they kept getting in my way! I much prefer smaller places for exploring.
St Ives is hugely pretty and has some fantastic beaches, but, sadly, it's not for me.
Still, another good day - I'm flying!
